Censorship is a governing body which can stop the publications of a product or text. Censorship of music can stop a song or video from being broadcasted on radio or television.

Censorship in music
An example of censorship in music used was in the 1940 with George Formby's song When I'm Cleaning Windows. This was banned from the radio as hte lyrics were seen as offending.
The lyrics were :

Governing body forced Cole Porter to change the lyric of "I Get A Kick Out Of You", which was a hit for Frank Sinatra.

Top of the pops banned the video for the song, ‘Fight for your right to Party” as it showed the band members trashing a party. They banned it as it portrayed anti social behaviour.

Self Censorship

• Resampling; using a like-sounding portion of vocals and music to override the offending word.
• Resinging; removing the word or part of the word and keeping the instrumental part of the song.
• Backmasking; taking the offending word and reversing the audio, sometimes the whole audio is reversed (often to simulate a 'backspin' sound), but more usually only the vocal track is reversed.
• Repeating; repeating the word just said before the explicit word was used.
• Skipping; deleting the word from the song without a time delay.

A subculture is group of people who are united through a common value system and tastes for example, fashion, social class, and music. Subcultures are usually postioned outside the mainstream as they go against what is popular.

Grant Macraken believes that the world is too modern and is full of diversity, dynamism and creativity that we can’t say that all subcultures come from because there are many different values and ideologies

Dick Hebdige believes that although the subcultures seem to be different they are deep down the same and are little cultures instead subcultures.

Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies
Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies believes that all subculture come from one subculture and that the subcultures are the branches of the main culture

The term subculture is true to a certain extent because they fight against and resist against the mainstream however the form of this is diverse and internally coherent. It also doesn’t take in conseration that teens will often move between subcultueres and olders teens will mix subculture therefore having mixed values and beliefs.

Justin Timberlake was born on the 31st of January 1981. He first appeared on the Disney channel when he stared in the Mickey Mouse club. In the late 1990’s he was part of a group called N’sync which he was the lead singer. In 2002 he began a solo career with his first album Justified, where he had successful singles such as cry me a river, like I love you and rock your body.

In 2006 he released his second album Future Sex/ Love Sounds. This sold 684,000 within its first week of being released, it also futures successful singles such as sexy back, what goes around and my love. Currently he has been in many collaborations with several artists such as Madonna and Timbaland with 4minutes also 50 cent and Timbaland with the song Ayo technology. He has also pursued an acting career and had a role in The love guru, Shrek the third and Alpha dog.
